LATEST NEWS (March 2012) from Vito LEO, owner and director
Next public session in Denmark already booked : 7-8 March 2013 in ROSKILDE
First let me apologize for the unfrequent update of this website. What are the latest news ? If you check the "Passed Seminars" link on the left, you will see that we are approaching session 75 very soon. The overall number of people that attended our 2 days training is now around 1350. Our faithful Danish customers have responded to our session in Roskilde (this 8-9 March 2012) with massive participation. We had a fantastic session in Roskilde with 24 participants from many different companies in Denmark. The session was a great success, with the help of Mogens PAPSOE (Novo) and the very good organization of ATV-SEMAPP / DTU. SAFRAN, the huge Aerospace french company has booked two sessions this year, to be held near Paris in May and November. Last October 2011, we had a very lively session in Lyngby (DTU Nanotechnology Institute) Just before Christmas last year, we had a very nice private session at Jordan in Oslo, Norway. ISPA, a french Engineering School specialized in Plastics and Polymer Processing has now regular sessions for their students in Alençon France. We hope to be able this year to set up a session in Germany, since Simpatec did not have the opportunity to organize it in 2011. As usually, feel free to contact me for any private session that your company might be interested to set up. Hoping to hear from you or see you soon at one of our trainings !

News April 2011 We are now well into 2011, and the business is globally picking-uo to some extent. What's up with our trainings ? Well, this 7-8 March 2011 we have had our first public session this year in Lyngby at DTU. Thanks to Erling Mortensen and the team, we had once again a nice audience of 20 people from various, mostly very loyal returning customers like Coloplast, Novo, Lego, Danfoss, Sony-Ericsson. Thank you to the new customers joining for the first time. A short while ago, April 5-6 2011 we had our second private training at LEGO. We thank our contacts for their trust and continued business. In May 2011, we will train Tech Space Aero (Groupe SAFRAN) in Belgium. As we did last time in Paris, we will add a third day to the training for a specific introduction to thermoplastics, Injection Molding, and basic mechanical principles in plastic part design. Our partner Simpatec in Germany has postponed somewhat the planned session and will announce a new date for a training around June 2011. This will likely be in Germany, with also a possible session in Benelux. If you are interested in participating in a training (English language) in these countries, please get in touch with me. 8-9 June 2011 we will give our yearly session for the I.F.P. Master School in Alençon France. This is exlusively intended for regular students of this Master Course from Institut Français du Pétrole. We hope to get also enough interest for a public French language session at ISPA Alençon in September 2011. Autodesk-Moldflow has very kindly renewed our licence for training purposes and we will be animating the last section of our training session with a group exercice followed by simulation based validation. For training organized with Simpatec we will use a similar approach, most probably using MOLDEX 3D. Please remember that on-site "private" sessions can be set-up at any time during the year and offer an overall advantage in terms of cost/person as well as confidentiality or customization of content. Don't hesitate to drop me a mail for more details.
Vito LEO BIMS SEMINARS SPRL Director and Trainer
It looks like the year is coming to an end for our 2010 activities. End of September we had our long awaited session for the French Aerospace/Defence groupe SAFRAN. About 25 people participated in this 3 days training, where we added an introduction to composites mechanics on top of the "classical" BIMS seminar. Recurrent sessions will be held at Safran to help the group manage the move from metal to high performance thermoplastic composites. From early next year, our new partner Simpatec (Moldex distributor and consultant in Germany and France) will organize possibly regular sessions in Germany (English). Look out for the coming announcement for a session around February 2011. Our long lasting and trusted partner ATV-Semapp will of course keep organizing our public sessions in Denmark. We also plan to shortly announce a session around February 2011. We also keep in touch with Matti Merikallio in Finland for a possible session in Finland. Please let him or me know if you are interested in participating. We encourage all companies interested in private sessions, offering always the highest value for the participants, to contact me a few months in advance in order to organize the session and customize the training to the specific needs and interest of the host. Remember that taking hotel/travel expenses into account, a private session can be your best option as soon as 4 or 5 people from the same company consider participation in a public session.
News - March 2010
Excellent week around Copenhagen this March 1st to 5th for seminar nr. 61 and 62 !. Almost 20 participants in the public session at DGI Byen, at the Central Station in Copenhagen. By the way, the renovated facilities are great and food has dramatically improved since last time I was here. Thank you to all of the participants for the very animated session. It's the first time I don't manage to keep the talk exactly on schedule, but this was because of the lively audience and very interesting questions. Fortunately we managed to catch up on day two and, as usually, had great fun with the "exercice". Some teams finished with huge penalties and a pretty bad looking part, but hopefully all took benefit from the session. Thank you to Peer for his participation and help in running Moldex live. A big thank you to my friend Mogens Papsoe for both his wonderful talks at the two seminars (the public one and the private session for Novo Nordisk on March 3-4) and his help in running Moldflow. Due to debatable wording in the rules we ended up giving the prize (Belgian Chocolates !) to a team that ended up with a "short-shot" !! This will not happen next time as we will make clear that apart from the various penalties (clamp force, airtraps, warp,...) one has to manage to make a full part to begin with ! This time I forgot to take my camera, so no pictures from the session on my site. But I noticed that Erling did put a couple of pictures up on the ATV-SEMAPP website. By the way, in case some of my Novo friends wonder, my laptop was readily repaired by Dell after I came back. The graphic card was dead, so nothing was lost from the HD. Thanks to Willem and Mogens for helping with their laptop. Luckily I had the ppt file on an USB key as usually for this type of emergencies. Don't hesitate to talk to your contacts about the seminar. We will organize another public session in Copenhagen pretty much around the same dates next year, i.e. March 2011. If anybody is interested in a private session (Grundfos may be as discussed briefly ?), just get in touch with me. I am definetely looking forward to coming back to Denmark soon. Regards to all. Vito - - - Year 2009 ended with a very nice and extremely interesting private session at TetraPak in Lund, Sweden. Unfortunately we did not hear from Ikea anymore but hope to re-establish some contacts in the near future. On the French speaking side of the business, we closed a deal with the Aerospace Groupe SAFRAN in France for an extended 3 day's session, including a one day session on composites mechanical aspects. This training will be offered in collaboration with partner training companies in France. The session is scheduled in the second quarter of this year. A public session will be held in France end of June or early July and organized by ISPA in Alençon, west France. A meeting will take place in the near future with LEGO, to discuss a future session based on a taylor made content derived from the standard current BIMS seminar. We hope to have this session during the second half of 2010 possibly. Should you also need a session on injection molding that better fits your specific needs, type of applications or materials, please let us know. With some upfront preparation we can certainly adapt the general training to vastly improve the efficiency and fulfill your particular requirements. Business is difficult for everyone these days. We all hear about contacts, colleagues or family members losing a job. Hopefully the very slow recovery we start to see will be confirmed and will be followed by some recovery on the employement front too. In the meanwhile, for companies who want to stay competitive, high level training is still one of the best options. In this rapidly changing world, our good old Europe can only differentiate herself from emerging economies on the base of undisputable technical excellence and product quality. We have already lost ground on the manufacturing front, for good or bad reasons. Let us try to maintain a competitive edge when it comes to product design and excellence in plastic processing and/or tooling design. See you soon in one of my training sessions. Vito
June 2009 As most of the businesses, we are seeing also a bit of a decrease in seminar participation and number of private sessions. Hopefully business will slowly recover in this second half of the year and early in 2010. Training remains a top priority, much more so in difficult times where better knowledge and skills can make the difference between success and failure. We'd like to thank ATV-SEMAPP for another successful session last February in Roskilde (BIMS 56). A new date has already been set-up for next year's public session in Denmark : 1-2 March 2010, in Roskilde As usually, online registration forms will appear online at www.atv-semapp.dk one or two months in advance. I would also like to thank LEGO in Billund for the very nice private session held in February 2009 (BIMS 57). As discussed, we hope other sessions will follow soon, to extend the training to other Lego employees. Our BIMS 59 session was presented a few days ago in France to the 24 Master students of the IFP school ( Institut Français du Pétrole), a prestigious engineering school dedicated to oil and petro-chemical related activities. Thank you to ISPA for the nice organization and to the students for their interest and active participation. Next November we will have a private session at TetraPak in Lund, Sweden. We are also discussing about a private session at Ikea, either end of this year or in 2010. Next spring, in conjunction with our public session in Roskilde, we hope to hold a private session at GN Netcom / GN Resound near Copenhagen.
We keep close contacts with Sintef in Norway for possible public sessions in Norway, and with Muovipoli for sessions in Finland. Please let us know if you are interested in these potential sessions. We'd also love to organize public sessions in other parts of Europe (Germany, UK, Iberia, Italy,..). If you are interested in helping us setting up these public sessions or can recommend interested parties (professional organisations or specialized companies), please let us know by mail or phone. We'd love to hear from you and meet you at a coming session.
Vito
- - - Should you need more details on any of these events, or want to register, or need a quote for a private session, please get directly in touch with me, either by phone (+32478449709) or mail (leo@bims-seminars.com).
Please note that following our new contract with Moldflow, the second afternoon will be entirely devoted to a highly interactive session in small groups around a practical example. The Moldflow software will be used live to analyze the proposals of the different groups, illustrating in a very dynamic way the key learnings of the session. We are entirely committed to continually improve our unique training seminar for the benefit of the injection molding community. We strongly advise participants that participated several years ago to join us again for a vastly improved and extended seminar with this new highly interactive final session in the second afternoon.
